What sets Culligan apart
Certified performance claims. The Iron-Cleer is certified by WQA against NSF/ANSI 42, NSF/ANSI 372 and CSA B483.1 for iron reduction, rated at 1,400 gallons between backwashes on the 10 in. filter and 2,000 on the 12 in. Few iron filters carry a certified reduction claim. The HE Softener is WQA certified to NSF/ANSI 44 for hardness, barium and radium 226/228 plus NSF/ANSI 372 and CSA B483.1. The uncertified parts are spelled out: the Iron-Cleer's 5 ppm hydrogen sulfide limit was tested by Culligan only, and the softener's iron removal claims have not been verified by WQA or IAPMO.
The dealer model brings service and a long warranty. The softener carries lifetime coverage on the Quadra-Hull tank and Cullex resin, 10 years on circuit board and control valve, 5 years on the Soft-Minder meter and probes and 1 year on the whole unit; the Iron-Cleer lists 10 years on circuit board, valve body and tank. Both connect to the Culligan Connect app.
The limits are real. The Iron-Cleer's 10 in. model delivers only 4-6 gpm of service flow, works within pH 7.0-8.5 with at least 100 ppm alkalinity and tops out at 60 psi. The softener's grain capacity depends on salt dose: 19,003 grains at 4 lb, 25,823 at 8 lb and 29,622 at 12 lb for the 9 in. downflow model per the current owner's guide, with lower figures for the upflow version.
Which Culligan for your water test
Clear-water iron up to 10 ppm, manganese or hydrogen sulfide up to 5 ppm, with pH between 7.0 and 8.5 and alkalinity of 100 ppm or more: the HE Iron-Cleer, two tanks on a 110 V air pump with a drain and an outlet. A lower pH, a larger home needing more than 6 gpm, or sulfide above 5 ppm points to another design, such as the SpringWell WS1 or the Matrixx inFusion.
Hardness up to 75 gpg with iron no higher than 5 ppm (and at least 8 gpg of hardness per ppm of iron): the HE Softener in the 9, 10, 12 or 14 in. size, rated 9.0 to 10.6 gpm. Iron tolerance depends on regular resin cleaning and is not part of the certification, so above a few ppm the Iron-Cleer belongs upstream. Either way the dealer sizes the unit from your test and quotes the installed price.
