What sets Pentair apart
Certification. The Premium UV is tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 55 Class A, the only Class A unit in our comparison and the class meant for microbiologically unsafe water. It pairs that with a UV intensity sensor that shuts off flow if the dose drops below 75%, a lamp-age display with alerts and a 125 psi rating. The 650647 is the 10 GPM size with combo 1-1/4 in. NPT / 1 in. FNPT connections; the family runs to 50 GPM across four SKUs. The Pentek Big Blue housing is listed under NSF/ANSI 42 and CSA B483.1 for material and structural integrity only, plus NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 for lead content.
Warranty terms are published by category and need no registration: UV chamber 10 years, UV electrical and hardware 3 years, lamps, sleeves and sensors 1 year; prefilter housings 1 year and replacement cartridges 30 days.
Price transparency is the weak spot. The Premium UV shows no price on its product page, which points to 'Where to buy' and 'Find a Dealer' instead, and we found no retailer price for this SKU; Pentair recommends professional installation, indoors and vertical. Pentair shows no price for the Big Blue housing either; the 1 in. 150237 was $51.51 at Fresh Water Systems, an authorized retailer, as of Oct 2026, and it is also sold on Amazon.
Which Pentair product for your water test
A positive bacteria result where you want a certified, sensor-monitored UV at the end of your treatment train: the Premium UV 650647 at 10 GPM. Pentair recommends a 5-micron sediment pre-filter upstream, and the water must be clear for the dose to hold, so iron, manganese and hardness need handling first. Get the price from a dealer and budget for a plumber. If you do not need the Class A listing, the iSpring UVF55FS and SpringWell UV cost less but carry no certification.
A sediment or carbon polishing stage: the Big Blue 150237 takes any 10 in. by 4-1/2 in. cartridge with only 1 psi of pressure drop at 15 GPM, so the micron rating is whatever cartridge you choose. It is opaque, so put a clear spin-down from Rusco or iSpring ahead of it if your well pumps sand. For iron or sulfur treatment, the discontinued Pelican SKUs leave a gap that SpringWell, US Water Systems or the dealer brands fill.
