The Pentair Pentek Big Blue 150237 is a 10 in. filter housing with 1 in. NPT ports and a high-flow polypropylene cap with a pressure-relief button. It is sold empty and accepts any 10 in. by 4-1/2 in. cartridge, so the micron rating depends on the cartridge you choose. Related SKUs are the 150238 (no pressure relief), 150233 (1 in., 20 in. long) and 150239 (1-1/2 in., 10 in.).

The housing is not flow rated; the spec sheet lists an initial pressure drop of 1 psi at 15 GPM. Maximum pressure is 100 psi and the temperature rating 40-100 F, in a maximum envelope of 13.30 by 7.45 in. NSF lists the 150237 under NSF/ANSI 42 and CSA B483.1 for material and structural integrity only, plus NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 for lead content, which says nothing about contaminant reduction. The sump is opaque, so you cannot see the sediment load.

Pentair shows no price; the 1 in. 150237 was $51.51 at Fresh Water Systems, an authorized retailer, as of Oct 2026, and it is also sold on Amazon. Install is DIY with standard threads, optional WB-ZP and WB-SS wall brackets and the SW-3 wrench, and Pentair warns to protect it from freezing. Warranty is 1 year on prefilter housings and 30 days on replacement cartridges.

Our take

The Big Blue is the industry-standard housing for a 5-micron final stage or a carbon block on a well line, with cartridges available from many brands. Its NSF/ANSI 42 listing covers materials and structure only, and the 1-year warranty is short next to SpringWell's lifetime housing term. If you want to see the sediment load, a clear spin-down from Rusco or iSpring ahead of it is a cheap addition.
