iSpring WSP-50 vs Rusco 1 in. Spin-Down: Which Reusable Sediment Filter?

Specs verified 2026-10-05 from manufacturer pages and retailer listings. We have not lab-tested either system.

A spin-down filter is the first thing most well owners put after the pressure tank: a clear housing with a reusable screen that catches sand, grit and rust flakes, and a flush valve at the bottom to purge them. The iSpring WSP-50 and the Rusco 1 in. Spin-Down are the two we see compared most, and they rank third and second on our sediment list.

They do the same job with different hardware. The iSpring is a compact unit with a 50-micron 316L stainless screen, a lead-free brass head threaded for both 1 in. and 3/4 in. lines, and a published $69.99 price. The Rusco is a larger US-made housing with 1 in. slip ports and a catalog of nine polyester and five stainless screens from 700 microns down to 15, sold by mesh count; Rusco's site shows no prices, but the 100 mesh unit was $46.80 at SupplyHouse.com.

CertificationsNot statedLead-free brass stated; no NSF/ANSI or other third-party certification is cited for this model on the product page or in the WSP series manual. iSpring's own 'NSF Certified Collections' page lists only the jumbo auto-flush WSP-ARJ / WSPSL-ARJ models under pre-filtration, not the WSP-50. WQA certified-product search (find.wqa.org) returned zero results for 'iSpring', 'iSpring Water', '123Filter', 'WGB32B' and 'RCC7AK' on 2026-10-06 (a control search for 'Culligan' returned listings). The iSpring NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 listing (Facility: Haining, Zhejiang, China; "Plumbed-In[LL]") names WSP50ARJ, WSP50ARJ-BP, WSP50ARJ-E, WSP 50SL-ARJ, WSP 50SL-ARJ-BP and the 100/200/500 equivalents, with "[LL] Product conforms with lead content requirements for “lead free” plumbing". 'Products are certified to the following standard(s): Section 1417(d) of the Safe Drinking Water Act; The lead content requirements of Section 116875 of the California Health & Safety Code.' This is a lead-content listing only, not a filtration-performance or NSF/ANSI 42/53 certification. rusco.com/certifications also cites IAPMO certificate N-13735/4988 (NSF/ANSI/CAN 61-2022, 'Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects') but the model list for that file would not load, so coverage of this model under NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 is unconfirmed. IAPMO files WP-16938 (NSF/ANSI 53-2021) and WP-16939 (CSA B483.1-2021) cover only the Rusco POE1-MS point-of-entry system, not spin-down filters. WQA product database: no results for 'Rusco'. Screens and what they catch

The WSP-50 ships with a 50-micron 316L stainless steel mesh screen, and the same housing accepts 100-, 200-, 500- and 1000-micron cartridges sold as the WSP-100 through WSP-1000, all at the same price. The screen is flushable and reusable, and iSpring says it usually lasts 1 to 2 years. The housing holds 5 oz and is clear PCTG, so you can see when it needs a flush.

Rusco specifies its screens by mesh and publishes the conversion: polyester 24 mesh is 700 microns, 60 mesh 250, 100 mesh 150, 140 mesh 100, 250 mesh 50, 500 mesh 30 and 1000 mesh 15 microns, with stainless screens from 500 down to 75 microns. The 100 mesh (150 micron) screen is the common default. That gives the Rusco the wider range at both ends: it can run coarser than the iSpring for heavy sand, or go down to 15 microns if the well produces fine grit, though at that fineness a screen clogs fast. Both are first-stage filters; neither replaces a 5-micron cartridge.

Flow, pressure and fittings

The WSP-50's 20 GPM figure is the maximum flow given in iSpring's WSP series manual. Maximum pressure is 115 psi with 25 to 80 psi recommended (the manual says 20 to 90 psi), temperature 40 to 100 F, indoor use. iSpring reports a 500 psi burst test and a 100,000-cycle water hammer test. The head is double-threaded, 1 in. MNPT and 3/4 in. FNPT, so it fits either line without adapters, and a mounting bracket is included; the flush valve takes 3/8 in. OD tubing on the base model, with a garden-hose barb and push-fit ball valve on the $133.99 bundle. The unit is 3.5 x 3.5 x 9 in. and listed at 1 lb (4 lb on the bundle page).

The Rusco is rated 1 to 25 GPM and 150 psi, with 1 in. slip ports, and measures 11-3/8 in. long by 5 in. wide. Maximum temperature is not stated on the standard cold-water page. Slip ports mean you solvent-weld or adapt rather than thread on, and Rusco's warranty says hand tighten only: use of tools on the housing voids it.

Warranty, certifications and where they are made

iSpring gives a 1-year warranty on the lead-free brass body, a 30-day money-back period and lifetime tech support. Rusco warrants the components of all its products for 12 months from the original sale, repairs or replaces defective parts, limits liability to the cost of the part, and has the customer pay return shipping.

Neither has a model-specific NSF/ANSI certification. iSpring states lead-free brass and a BPA-free housing and notes that its WSP50ARJ jumbo model is marketed as NSF certified, which this one is not. IAPMO R&T lists the Rusco 1-100-F under File No. 6759 as a lead-free plumbing product, which covers lead content only, not filtration performance. Rusco's products are made in Brooksville, Florida, and the company describes them as proudly crafted in the USA.

Price and running cost

The WSP-50 was $69.99 at ispringfilter.com as of Oct 2026 (regular price), and the exact model is on Amazon. Rusco's site shows no prices; the 100 mesh 1-100-F was $46.80 at SupplyHouse.com as of Oct 2026, and the exact model is listed on Amazon.

Running cost is near zero for both. Each uses a reusable screen flushed through the bottom valve, daily to weekly depending on sediment load, with no cartridges to buy. The iSpring screen's 1 to 2 year life is the only replacement either maker puts a number on; Rusco describes its polyester screens as durable and easily cleaned for reuse.

Verdict

For a typical 3/4 in. or 1 in. line with sand and rust, the iSpring WSP-50 is the easier buy: a $69.99 price direct from the maker, threads for either pipe size, a bracket in the box, and a higher 115 psi rating than most homes will ever see. The Rusco 1 in. Spin-Down is the better tool when you need to tune the screen, from 700 microns for coarse sand down to 15 for fine grit, or when a 150 psi rating and a US-made housing matter to you, and it is why the Rusco ranks one place above the iSpring on our sediment list; at $46.80 from a retailer it is also the cheaper of the two. Either one should be followed by a finer cartridge before a softener or UV.

Both systems have full spec pages: iSpring WSP-50 Reusable Spin Down Sediment Filter and Rusco 1 in. Spin-Down Sediment Filter. For the wider field, see the ranked list, and size either one against your flow with the sizing guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which has the finer screen?

The Rusco can go finer: its 1000 mesh polyester screen is 15 microns, against the iSpring's 50-micron standard screen (with 100 to 1000 micron options). Neither is a substitute for a 5-micron cartridge behind it.

Will the iSpring WSP-50 fit a 3/4 in. line?

Yes. Its brass head is double-threaded with 1 in. MNPT and 3/4 in. FNPT ends. The Rusco 1 in. Spin-Down has 1 in. slip ports.

Which has the higher pressure rating?

The Rusco, at 150 psi maximum. The iSpring WSP-50 is rated 115 psi maximum with 25 to 80 psi recommended.

What is the warranty on each?

iSpring: 1 year on the brass body with 30-day money-back. Rusco: 12 months on all components from the original sale, with liability limited to the cost of the part and the warranty voided if tools are used on the housing.
