Rusco makes centrifugal spin-down and Sediment Trapper screen filters in 3/4 in. to 2 in. sizes, plus chemical-resistant and hot-water versions. The company is located in Brooksville, Florida, labels its products Proudly Crafted in the USA and says it has been in business for over four decades; rusco.com gives no founding year and its About page returned a 404.

We cover three Rusco units: the 1 in. Spin-Down, the 1-1/2 in. Spin-Down and the 1 in. Sediment Trapper. Rusco's site shows no prices; as of Oct 2026 the 100 mesh units were $46.80 (1 in. Spin-Down, SupplyHouse.com), $77.13 (1-1/2 in. Spin-Down, Fresh Water Systems) and $84.72 (1 in. Sediment Trapper, Fresh Water Systems), and the 1 in. Spin-Down also has an Amazon listing.

What sets Rusco apart

The screen system. Rusco specifies screens by mesh and publishes the conversion: polyester from 24 mesh (700 microns) through 100 mesh (150 microns, the common default), 250 mesh (50 microns) and 500 mesh (30 microns) down to 1000 mesh (15 microns), and stainless steel from 30 to 200 mesh (500 to 75 microns). Screens are flushed and reused. The Sediment Trapper's longer 14-3/8 in. body also accepts melt-blown and pleated elements down to 1 micron, a 5-micron carbon element and heavy-duty elements up to 4,000 microns.

The housings are rated 150 psi; the 1 in. units run 1-25 GPM and the standard 1-1/2 in. runs 10-50 GPM. A separate 1-1/2 in. hot-water housing is rated 18-100 GPM with different ports and dimensions, so check which one you are ordering. Ports are slip on all three.

Warranty is 12 months from the original sale on all components, liability is limited to the cost of the part, and using tools on the housing voids it, so hand tighten only. IAPMO R&T lists all three under File No. 6759 as lead-free plumbing products (Safe Drinking Water Act Section 1417(d)); that covers lead content only, and no NSF/ANSI filtration-performance certification is recorded for any of the three.

Which Rusco for your well

Sand, grit or rust flakes on a 1 in. well line: the 1 in. Spin-Down. Its slip ports suit most pressure-tank outlets, the 11-3/8 in. housing fits where space is tight, and the 100 mesh screen catches the coarse load so a 5-micron cartridge behind it lasts. It is never the final stage; even the finest 1000 mesh screen is 15 microns.

The same water but you want one housing to do more: the 1 in. Sediment Trapper. It keeps the same flow and ports but takes melt-blown or pleated elements at 5 or 1 micron, or a carbon element, so it can serve as a fine stage or switch back to a flushable screen. Rusco does not put a number on its extra capacity over the standard body.

A 1-1/2 in. line or demand above 25 GPM: the 1-1/2 in. Spin-Down at 10-50 GPM. If your line is 3/4 in., the US Water Systems own-brand spin-down is the comparable unit in that size, and for a sub-$80 alternative with a dual 1 in. and 3/4 in. thread, the iSpring WSP-50 is the other option.

Warranty

All Rusco product components warranted for 12 months from date of original sale against defects in material and workmanship; liability limited to the cost of the part; use of tools on the housing voids the warranty (hand tighten only).
