APEC ROES-50 Essence 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis System

Reverse osmosis · Not stated · Treats nitrates, pfas · $231 at APEC Water Systems as of Oct 2026

The APEC ROES-50 is a five-stage under-sink reverse osmosis system that treats drinking water at one faucet, not the whole house: sediment filter, two carbon blocks, a TFC membrane and a coconut shell carbon post-filter. The product page calls it a WQA Gold Seal certified system; the owner's manual and WQA's listing say it is certified by WQA to NSF/ANSI 58 for TDS reduction only. Nitrate, PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, arsenic, fluoride and lead appear on the page's 'removes up to 99% of contaminants' checklist as manufacturer claims; no certified per-contaminant percentages are published.

Output is rated 50 gallons per day at 60 psi and drops to 30 GPD at 50 psi, within a 40-85 psi feed range and a 2,000 ppm TDS ceiling. A 4-gallon tank and lead-free faucet are included; the manual schedules pre-filters every 6-12 months and the membrane every 2-4 years (2 on well water), and lists an 11.80% efficiency rating. The system is 15.5 x 5.25 x 17 in. and 26 lb.

Price was $230.99 at apecwater.com as of Oct 2026 (regular price, in stock). Install is DIY with quick-connect fittings and needs a faucet hole, cold-water tee and drain saddle. Warranty is 1 year, filters and membrane excluded, with lifetime phone support.

Pros

  • Maker lists nitrate, PFOA and PFOS among the contaminants the system reduces
  • WQA Gold Seal certified system: certified by WQA to NSF/ANSI 58 for TDS reduction
  • Lowest regular (non-sale) price of the certified RO systems researched, with tank and faucet included
  • DIY install with quick-connect fittings and lifetime phone support

Cons

  • Only a 1-year warranty and no money-back guarantee stated on the warranty page
  • WQA certification covers TDS reduction only; nitrate, PFAS, arsenic and lead reduction are maker claims, not certified claims
  • 50 GPD at 60 psi drops to 30 GPD at 50 psi; low-pressure wells may need a booster pump
  • Low water efficiency: 11.80% efficiency rating in the owner's manual

Our take

The ROES-50 has the lowest regular price of the certified RO systems we researched (the Aquasana SmartFlow was cheaper only at its sale price), with tank and faucet included, and the maker lists nitrate and PFAS among the contaminants it reduces. Buy it for a DIY drinking-water RO if you can accept a 1-year warranty and no published certified reduction figures. Low well pressure pulls output toward 30 GPD, so check your pressure first and retest the treated water.
