SpringWell SS1 Salt-Based Water Softener

Water softener · 11 GPM · Treats hardness · $1,607 (sale) at SpringWell as of Oct 2026

The SpringWell SS1 is a conventional ion-exchange water softener that removes calcium and magnesium hardness, the cause of water spots and scale. The SS1 (1-3 bathrooms) carries 32,000 grains of capacity at 11 GPM service flow; the SS4 is 48,000 grains at 13 GPM and the SS+ 80,000 grains at 20 GPM. Regeneration is metered on demand to save salt and water, and the Bluetooth head lets you change settings from a phone. Operating range is 25-80 psi, 36-120 F and pH 6.5-10.

The resin tank is 9 in. by 48 in. (57 in. with the head) and the round brine tank is 18 in. by 33 in.; shipping weight is 84 lb. The kit includes the softener tank, brine tank, drain line, MNPT fittings, electronic head and power supply. It needs salt, a drain and electricity. No NSF/ANSI 44 or other third-party certification is stated.

Price was $1,606.50 at springwellwater.com as of Oct 2026 (sale; regular $1,890). The bypass valve is added at checkout. SpringWell's lifetime warranty covers tanks, valves, fittings and heads, with the electronic head limited to 5 years per the product page (7 per SpringWell's warranty page). Returns are accepted within 6 months only for unused, uninstalled items, with a 10% restocking fee; an installed system is returnable only if SpringWell finds it defective. WarrantyLifetime manufacturer warrantyLifetime warranty on covered items (fittings, tanks, housings, bypasses, valves, in/out heads) per product page. Electronic-head term conflict (read 2026-10-06): the Warranty tab on this product page says "Limited Warranty for a period of 5- years" for solid-state electronic heads, while springwellwater.com/warranty/ says "Limited Warranty for a period of 7- years"; both say 10 years for retention/mineral tanks 14 in. or larger. Page badge reads '6-month money-back guarantee'. Return fine print on the product page: returns accepted within six months only for unused, uninstalled items in undamaged packaging, with a 10% restocking fee (up to 25% for refused deliveries) and shipping not refunded; the "6-month Performance Promise" says installed systems are not eligible for return unless SpringWell determines them defective.
CertificationsNot statedNo NSF/ANSI 44 or other third-party certification stated on the product page. Re-checked 2026-10-06: product page text still contains no NSF, WQA, IAPMO or "certified" wording. WQA certified-product database (find.wqa.org/find-products) keyword searches for "SpringWell", "Spring Well", "Wise Water", "BlackComb" and "FutureSoft" each returned zero listings (a control search for "Pentair" returned listings). IAPMO listing directory could not be queried by script, so IAPMO status was not checked. NSF certified-product database (info.nsf.org), searched 2026-10-06: no matching listing found for this model.

Our take

The SS1 is the SpringWell to buy when the test shows hardness and you want actual softening rather than scale conditioning. Its 11 GPM service flow is the lowest in SpringWell's well-water lineup, and it carries no NSF/ANSI 44 certification where the dealer-sold Culligan and Kinetico softeners do. On an iron-bearing well, put a WS1 ahead of it or buy the WSSS1 combo.
